En el marco del programa Latin American Cultural Exchange Fellowship Colombia, Sofia Colmenares del Fine Cacao and Chocolate Institute (FCCI) lideró una serie de entrevistas a productores de cacao, productores de chocolate, chefs chocolateros, e investigadores, entre otros actores que participan o colaboran con la industria colombiana del cacao y el chocolate. En conjunto proporcionan una imagen inclusiva de la industria del cacao en Colombia; lo que conllevo a dar visibilidad a personas que no han sido consideradas en la narrativa, enfatizar la importancia de reconocer la calidad del cacao colombiano y revalorar la relación entre el cacao con la historia, el patrimonio y la cultura de Colombia. Doña Carmen es cacaocultora de la zona de Bucaramanga (en Santander) desde su juventud, ahora siembra cacao en su finca de la mano de sus hijos. Por años, también ha procesado el cacao en chocolate para darle un valor agregado a su trabajo. Sus productos y legado viven bajo la marca Chocolates Goyeneche.

Within the scope of the Latin American Cultural Exchange Fellowship Colombia, the Fine Cacao and Chocolate Institute’s (FCCI) Sofia Colmenares spearheaded a series of interviews with cacao producers, chocolate makers, chocolatiers, and researchers, amongst other stakeholders, that participate in or collaborate with the Colombian cacao and chocolate industry. As a whole, they provide a detailed review of the cacao industry in Colombia; this was achieved by providing visibility to people generally dismissed in popular narrative, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the potential quality of Colombian cacao, and reevaluating the relationship of cacao with Colombian history, heritage, and culture. Interviews have been transcribed with the objective of sharing the most relevant information with the readers of this blog.
Meet Doña Carmen Esteban de Goyeneche (Chocolates Goyeneche)

Doña Carmen is a cacao producer from the area of Bucaramanga (in Santander). She continues to harvest cacao in her farm alongside her children. In years past she has also transformed cacao into chocolate for an added value to her work. Her products and her legacy live under the brand Chocolates Goyeneche.
